Interview with Matthew G. Roesser
Manager, Franchise Recruiting and Engagement Mid Atlantic Market Group, Ameriprise Financial Services, Inc.
How did you hear about MYT and its EQ work?
Through my work at Ameriprise Financial, other field leaders throughout the organization had spoken highly of their MYT experience.
What was your first experience like?
While I had participated in similar workplace training programs in the past, MYT offered something unique; an opportunity to improve my performance by not simply analyzing my professional skill-sets and developmental area’s, but also via a focus on objective feedback to realize an improved ‘self’ perspective.
How did you react to your IDP and do you still refer to it?
I was frightened by the accuracy of the results; so much so that my initial reaction was to dismiss and disregard my developmental area’s as implausible. However, through continued dialogue with both the MYT team and my observers (coworkers, friends and family), I quickly realized that my IDP focused on the specific area’s that were impeding me from achieving additional success and happiness.
Did you receive focused, direct, & honest feedback from your “observers”?
The feedback I received was direct and honest and consistent with the results of my MYT study. Most enlightening was the consistency of my observer feedback. It served as additional verification (perhaps even vindication) that the developmental area’s that were identified were universally recognized by everyone but me; almost as if my observers had ‘compared notes’.
What was the outcome of your coaching calls?
Easily the most enlightening, and at times uncomfortable, part of my training, the coaching calls provided me a ‘sounding board’ to review and discuss results with my MYT team. I walked away from EVERY call with a renewed sense of focus and direction; more clear on my developmental area’s and more confident in my ability to overcome challenges. In short, as a result of these calls, my challenges no longer seemed daunting or insurmountable.
How many times have you been through the workshop?
I’ve self-selected into the workshop and two separate occasions and intend to re-engage again in the future.
Do you feel you are more emotionally competent?
Not only do I feel more emotionally competent and able to more effectively address both professional and personal challenges, but more importantly, I feel a clearer sense of self; rather, I believe that through improved anger management, vitality and a general positive perspective, I can more consistently achieve higher levels of success in every facet of my life.
Was MYT worth the investment?
While it’s difficult to quantify the monumental impact of the training received, I would strongly encourage anyone looking to realize optimal performance at home and at work to participate in MYT training.
